This handmade Tibetan Tote with tassels is made from of Yak leather from Tibet, by the artists at Lhasa Villages. Yak leather is soft and flexible to the touch but strong enough to hold everything that you want to carry. The yak leather is acquired from a local tanning factory that collects the hides from Tibetan nomads. The artists begin by cutting the bag shape from the leather. Traditional Tibetan motif shapes are then cut and appliqued to the bag using glue, followed by stitching. The bag pieces are joined by hand stitching. The leather used for the applique and tassels is dyed turquoise inspired by the color of the Tibetan sky creating a beautiful contrast to the brown yak hide.
The tote has two interior pockets perfect for carrying your phone and keys for easy access. The tote closes with a leather flap and magnetic snap for your convenience.
Tote measures 14 inches high, by 18 inches wide and the base is 3 ¾ inches deep.
"My community inspires my art. In today's society, folk art is growing less valuable, and more items are being factory-produced. Our heritage must not be lost." - Thupten Chompel of Lhasa Villages, Nepal
