Sea Meets Land Ikat Duffle Bag
Vast desert land meeting pristine clear blue waters come to mind when looking at this beautiful silk Ikat duffle from Bibi Hanum. Style and function come together with this handmade piece featuring two-sided black, cream and aqua Ikat finished with black leather accents and handles. The aqua zipper tag along with upbeat striped fabric patterning in the lining shows that you can’t judge a book by its cover.
Incorporating a 37-step process, Ikat is the Uzbek tradition of tie-dye in which the warp of a weaving is tie-dyed to create the intricate pattern. Once the fabric, a blend of cotton and silk is woven, the women of Bibi Hanum sew them into beautiful garments that are all finished with care by hand, adding to their exceptional quality. It is very difficult for weavers to align the various layers, which results in a blurred effect in the traditional patterning.
Each of these textiles is a one-of-a-kind handmade piece of folk art, so there may be slight variations from the item pictured.
