Rainclouds Over Desert Sands Basket
Baskets in Rwanda are a time-honored traditional art form used for everything from wedding gifts to child naming ceremonies. Now known as a symbol peace because Tutsi and Hutu women at Gahaya Links work side by side to create them, the baskets are featured on the national currency.
This striking off-white coiled and stitched lidded basket with black raincloud accents provides contrasting visuals that highlight the extremes of a dark rainstorm and the dryness of a desert. The lid color configuration seems to hint at rising above adversity.
The Rainclouds Over Desert Sands Basket is made from naturally dyed sweet grasses, sisal, papyrus and bamboo and offers traditional artisanship with a contemporary flair.
This basket measures 9” high by 4.5” in diameter
