Orange and Yellow Cluster Agave Necklace
This lively piece is made by the Khenifra Women’s Cooperative in Khenifra Morocco. The jalaba button featured in the jewelry is made from sabra, a natural thread that comes from the local agave plants. The sabra is dyed locally and comes in hundreds of bright hues. First the artist must prepare the thread by twisting the 4 strands of the sabra into one. Then they find a base for the button, usually a bead, and build the button around the base using a needle and the sabra thread that they created. Once all of the buttons are created the artist weaves them tightly into this beautiful necklace.
Measures approximately 20 inches long
