In Harmony Floral and Paisley Wrap
India, with some of the most visually stunning landscapes on earth, is a place where the natural and created commingle. Made by the women of Self Help Enterprises in India using the Kantha stitching technique, a centuries-old running stitch embroidery used for joining layers of fabric, the In Harmony wrap combines two visually unique patterns handcrafted with cotton thread. The piece’s dual quadrants--one floral and the other with large paisleys on black crepe--harmonize and calm the senses.
The process begins first with the artist drawing the design on paper. Pinholes are then punched along the outlines of the designs. The paper is placed on the fabric and color is dotted through the holes using a cotton ball to form the outline of the design. After the paper is removed, the artist stitches over the dots and fills in the central areas of the design with running stitches.
This unique piece of folk art is handcrafted and may contain slight variations in color and design which add to its charm.
Measures approximately 35” wide x 90” long.
