Footed Sweetgrass Offering Basket
Basket weaving is one of the most difficult, time-consuming handicrafts. In Rwanda, this time-honored traditional art form is used for everything from wedding gifts to child naming ceremonies. In addition to being featured on the national currency, Gahaya Links baskets are a symbol of peace, each commemorating the Tutsi and Hutu women who come together to create them.
Baskets don’t get more sculptural than this green and natural sweetgrass basket. It is balanced upon coiled and stitched double-layered feet that snake from top to bottom. A beautiful decorative statement for the home, this piece of fiber art can hold dried flowers a small potted plant or stand alone on a coffee table, mantle or shelf.
The basket measures approximately 5” high by 6” in diameter.
