Felt Kyrgz boy on Donkey
This scene is a typical scene of everyday rural life in Kyrgyzstan. Donkeys are used as helpers with farm work and pets for the children to enjoy, especially boys. The saddle is decorated with traditional embroidery.
These figures are handmade in Kyrgyzstan out of felt, a thick fabric produced by application of heat, water, and pressure for the meshing together of wool fibers. The women dye the felt pieces and then cut, and shape them into animals and dolls. Erekebu’s specialty is making the faces which are embellished with silk and wool embroidery and beads. She uses yarn hair to make the hair. The intricately dressed figures represent daily life and customs in rural Kyrgyzstan.
This exquisite handmade set makes a wonderful gift or playful addition to any room in your house.
