Fancy Apa Marjan with Child
This Apa Marjan doll epitomizes motherhood and gives an everyday look at rural life in Kyrgyzstan. This piece is highly detailed, from the intricate embroidery on her clothing, to the beaded and latticed ornamental jewelry in her hair.
These figures are handmade in Kyrgyzstan out of felt, a thick fabric produced by application of heat, water, and pressure for the meshing together of wool fibers. The women dye the felt pieces and then cut, and shape them into animals and dolls. Erkebu’s specialty is making the faces which are embellished with silk and wool embroidery and beads. She uses yarn hair to make the hair. This figure is depicted with a loving expression on her face and she sweetly holds her child in her arms.
Doll measures approximately 10" tall by 4.5" wide. Note: Since this is original handmade folk art, the item you receive might have slight variations from the one that is pictured.
"All my products carry positive energy, because wool is a live material. I put love and positive energy into my work and people that buy my products can feel this warmth and love in every doll." -Erkebu Djumagulova, Kyrgyzstan
