Silken Flowers Wrap
The Floral Wrap is handmade by the women of Self Help Enterprises in India using the Kantha stitching technique, a centuries-old running stitch used for joining layers of fabric. Perfect for an elegant evening out, this light and airy wrap is woven out of fine crepe silk and the design is inspired by the flowers found in rural Bengal regions of India. The embroidery is done by hand using golden cotton threads.
The process begins first with the artist drawing the design on paper. Pinholes are then punched along the outlines of the designs. The paper is placed on the fabric and color is dotted through the holes using a cotton ball to form the outline of the design. After the paper is removed, the artist stitches over the dots and fills in the central areas of the design with running stitches.
This unique piece of folk art is handcrafted and may contain slight variations in color and design which add to its charm.
Measures approximately 38 inches wide by 98 inches long.
